COPPO - Italy's Canelli Region
Coppo is a stunning example of the exceptional wines that can be made from italy's Canelli region. It is also an incredible example of the quality that can come from 100 years of history and tradition married with an eye toward modernity.
Coppo Winery was founded in 1892 in the town of Canelli, Piedmont, by Piero Coppo. It was his son, Luigi, who gave the winery not only his name, but the innovations that brought the winery up to the high standards for which it is known today. Piero's four grandsons manage the company, successfully integrating new styles with traditional viticulture.
In 1984, the Coppo's decided to focus on Barbera, releasing to the market their interpretation of this local grape. The prestigious Pomorosso was born, emerging as the model of the modern style Barbera, aged in oak and with an unmistakable personality. The Coppo winery now focuses only on the traditional red varietals from the Asti region: Barbera and Brachetto. They also produce serious white wines made from the region's traditional chardonnay grape, as well as native grapes Cortese and Moscato.
Today Coppo is considered a "Barbera specialist" worldwide, and produce classic Piedmontese wines that are ranked among Italy's best.
